Tilapia, the versatile fish
Tilapia is considered as the oldest farm raised fish in the world. It's being farmed as far back as ancient times in Egypt, specifically in the Nile Delta for thousands of years. Which is why it's called Nile Tilapia. It is also referred to as Peter's fish after biblical scholars suggests that it was the fish used by Jesus to feed the crowd at the sea of Galilee. Tilapia is a genus and isn't just a single species of fish. In fact, there were a hundred but the following are of major commercial importance: Nile or Black tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) , Blue tilapia (O. aureus), and Mozambique or red tilapia (O. mossambicus) .
